Bengal Govt bans wall writing
Kolkata, Feb 23(UNI) Prior to the Assembly elections, the West Bengal Government today banned wall writing throughout the state.
A notification issued at the State Secretariat said West Bengal Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1976, which had so far been limited only to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area, would be applicable in the whole state.
Under the Act, writing on Government or private buildings is prohibited.
The Government order was significant before the coming elections as wall grafitti was a traditional mode of political campaign in the state.
CPI(M) state unit Secretary Anil Biswas said the party would not instruct its cadres to go for fresh wall writings. ''We are awaiting Election Commission insturctions on the modes of campaign without wall writing. Our party will go by what the other parties will do,'' he said.
