Award for promotion of Kuchipudi dance

Machilipatnam, Feb 24 (UNI) Magician Sangeeta Rao of Chennai has been selected for the Sri Vedantam Lakshminarayana Sastry Puraskar for the year 2006 for his lifetime contribution to promotion of Kuchipudi dance.

Speaking to UNI here today, Venkat Vempati of Vempati China Satyam Foundation (VCS), the award was instituted by VCS to honour one eminent artiste every year.

The award carried Rs 50,000 in cash and a citation. Mr Sangeeta Rao will be given the award during the Siddhendra Yogi Mahotsav at Kuchipudi, about 25 kms from here, between March ten and 16, he added.
