Allopathic drug in ayurvedic medicines

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) An allopathic drug has been found to have been used as an adulterant in ayurvedic medicines, Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss informed the Lok Sabha today.

He said the Drugs Controller General of India had received three reports of allopathic drug being used as an adulterant in ayurvedic medicines.

''These cases are under further investigation,'' he said during question hour.

Regarding the samples collected from Divya Jyoti Pharmacy of Yoga Guru Ramdev, he said two medicines provided by an MP were tested by two reputed laboratories in the country.

In one of the medicines, one of the laboratories had confirmed the presence of DNA of human species but the other laboratory had not confirmed it.

Regarding the other medicine, neither of the laboratories found DNA of human origin, he said.

The analysis reports, he said, had been sent to the Uttaranchal government for further investigation and appropriate action.
