9 SEZs proposed in Punjab, 5 to be built by Quark alone

Chandigarh, Feb 24 (UNI) The Punjab government has proposed to the Centre to create nine Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the state, mainly in food processing, information technology, textiles and trading.

Informing this in the Punjab Assembly here today, Deputy Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal said the SEZ in Mohali would be created by M/s Quark City Indian Ltd. and M/s Ranbaxy Laboratories in the respective fields of information technology and pharmaceuticals.

The other proposed SEZs to be created by M/s Quark City Pvt Ltd would be one each in Patiala-Sangrur-Fatehgarh Sahib, Jalandhar-Ludhiana-Hoshiarpur and Amritsar-Gurdaspur-Kapurthala regions.

Two more SEZs were proposed to be created by M/s Quark City Pvt Ltd at different places, Ms Bhattal said.

M/s DLF Universal Ltd has also proposed to set up two SEZs, each in Amritsar and Ludhiana-Jalandhar regions.
