SP to honour Azmi for taking oath in Hindu
New Delhi, Nov 14: Samajwadi Party is ready to felicitate newly elected Maharashtra MLA Abu Asim Azmi for taking oath in Hindi and flouting the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray's dikat demanding that all MLAs must take oath 'only in Marathi'.
On Nov 9, Azmi was assaulted by the MNS MLAs in the Maharahstra Legisltive Assembly for taking oath in Hindi.
"The party will honour Azmi on November 17 for his courage to take oath in Hindi despite violent opposition by the MNS members in Maharashtra assembly," party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said on Saturday, Nov 14.
The ceremony which will be attended by party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and national general secretary Amar Singh will be held in SP headquarters in Lucknow.
"By taking oath in Hindi, Azmi had not only shown patriotism, but also bravely faced those posing threat to the unity and integrity of the country," Chaudhary said.
