The Panchayat elections have finally concluded. After the year 2018, it's now 2023. The people of the Panchayat areas exercised their voting rights again after a gap of five years.
Panchayat elections have been completed on Saturday in a total of 22 districts. Among them, dual-tier Panchayat elections were held in Darjeeling and Kalimpong. In all the other districts, tri-tier elections took place. According to the Election Commission, the total number of voters this time was 5 crore 67 lakh 21 thousand 234. There were a total of 61,636 polling centers. On Saturday, 3,317 gram Panchayat polling centers were set up, along with 58,513 Panchayat Samiti polling centers, 9,730 Zilla Parishad centers, and 928 centers for votes in 20 districts.
The main contest was between the Trinamool Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Left Front, and Congress. In the Panchayat elections, the Independent candidates played a significant role in several seats. The Commission has informed that until the end of the nomination phase, the number of Trinamool Congress candidates was 85,817. BJP filed nominations for 56,321 seats, CPI(M) for 48,646 seats, and Congress for 17,750 seats. It will soon become evident who holds the power in the villages of West Bengal.
