Indian Sailor Dies On Ship At Oman’s Duqm Port; Body Awaits Repatriation Amid Govt Delays

The death of 35-year-old Indian seafarer Nishanth Uirthanathan aboard the oil tanker MT Celestial in Oman has sparked conce across the maritime community. The Tamil Nadu native reportedly fell seriously ill while the vessel was anchored at Duqm Port and died on June 11 after his condition worsened. His body remains aboard the ship awaiting repatriation, leaving his family in anguish. Seafarers’ unions have questioned whether adequate medical assistance and emergency evacuation measures were provided in time. Indian authorities say they are coordinating with Omani officials and the vessel’s owners to complete formalities and retu his remains home.
