The Annapoorneshwari Temple has a history of over 400 years. The hereditary priests, known as 'Dharmakartharu', have been serving the temple for generations. The temple was relatively unknown until the fifth Dharmakartharu, Sri D.B. Venkatasubba Jois, revitalised it. The goddess's icon was reestablished in 1973 on Akshaya Tritiya.
