As Microsoft prepares to end support for Windows 10, the company is shifting its focus to an AI-powered future with Windows 11. The tech giant has introduced a major update centered around its Copilot AI assistant, making it the central part of the new Windows experience. According to Microsoft, every Windows 11 device will soon evolve into an "AI PC."

Copilot Becomes More Conversational

Microsoft is giving Copilot a complete personality upgrade, making it more natural and engaging to use. The assistant can now understand conversations and respond like popular voice assistants such as Siri or Alexa. Users will be able to activate it hands-free by simply saying, "Hey Copilot."

This feature will be optional and can be turned on through the settings. Once enabled, saying the phrase will bring up a small microphone icon along with a chime to signal that Copilot is ready. A "Goodbye" command will also end the session smoothly.

Microsoft has observed that users interact twice as much when speaking to Copilot compared to typing. The company says that voice-based interactions lead to "deeper engagement." Clearly, Microsoft wants Copilot to become a more interactive and friendly companion for Windows users.

Copilot Gains Vision Capabilities

In addition to voice, Copilot is also gaining the ability to see. This new "vision" feature allows it to understand what is displayed on your screen and assist you in real time. Whether you are editing photos, preparing presentations, or managing spreadsheets, Copilot can now analyze the content and offer guidance step by step.

For example, while working on a PowerPoint presentation, Copilot can review all slides, suggest layout improvements, fix formatting problems, or even demonstrate how to perform specific tasks. This feature will also help in gaming, photo viewing, and travel planning.

Microsoft is testing a text-only mode for Windows Insiders, allowing users to interact with Copilot Vision entirely through text.

Yusuf Mehdi, Executive Vice President and Consumer Chief Marketing Officer at Microsoft, said, "This experience leverages existing Windows APIs to return your apps, files and settings, like the Windows Search experience, and does not grant Copilot access to your content."

This means that Copilot will help you find what you need without invading your privacy.

Copilot Actions: Your Personal AI Agent

A major highlight of the update is Copilot Actions, which introduces smart automation to Windows. Instead of navigating menus or switching between apps, users can now describe what they want to do in plain English, and Copilot will complete the task automatically.

From resizing images and sending emails to adjusting system settings, the assistant will interact with both desktop and web applications to perform tasks on your behalf.
