Apple Vision Pro: Can It Live Up To The Hype?
Apple's Vision Pro is the latest gizmo on offer, which has everybody talking. The headset with a hefty price tag promises to revolutionize the way we watch videos or interact. With a price tag of $3,500, the pricey product from the Apple stable is finally here after more than a decade of development. The new device promises to lure users away from the television screens and give them a completely new user experience. But the big question: can it live up to the hype?

While the cheapest version has 256 GBs of storage and costs $3,500 (3 lakh Indian Rupees), the higher-priced model boasts of 1 TB storage and costs $3,900. It's like wearing the television screen or the computer screen on your face. It's sleek and a technological marvel. When a person begins watching a video, the lights around them automatically dim as the content moves closer to them. The scale of the video can also be adjusted according to the size of the room.
APPLE VISION PRO: MASSIVE PRE-ORDERS OF AROUND 200,000 UNITS
There is not just excitement among true-blooded Apple fans, but even the opening sales are also quite impressive. Apple has reportedly sold out of its initial stock of 200,000 headsets. Apple says users can enjoy more than 150 3D movies in their personal theatre. "Users can turn any place into the best seat in the house, enjoy concerts and adventures with Apple Immersive Video, interact with lifelike prehistoric creatures in Encounter Dinosaurs, and even land on the surface of the moon using Environments," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
APPLE'S BIG BET: A GLIMPSE INTO THE METAVERSE
Apple has been known to spearhead innovation in recent times. The Vision Pro holds a lot of promise but has quite a lot of flip sides too. The first being that: will the sale volumes live up to the expectations? Apple's foray into the virtual reality arena comes at a hefty price. The headset boasts of 12 high-resolution cameras, six microphones, and five sensors to give a 360-degree immersive viewing experience.
CAN THE TECH GIANT CONQUER THE MIXED REALITY LANDSCAPE?
The Vision Pro headsets have a definite "wow" factor, but technology experts point out that the world's most iconic device maker faces stiff competition. Meta's Quest Pro and HTC's Vive Flow offer competing mixed reality solutions but at a much cheaper price. However, Apple CEO Tim Cook is marketing the new headset as a "spatial computing" device giving users the ability to go between full virtual reality and augmented reality. In ads, users wear the Vision Pro to work or chat with friends or toggle through apps and stream movies.
But again, the price tag can be a deterrent for potential customers. Many initial users have complained of fatigue and neck pain after using the device for about an hour. In the coming months, we will know whether Vision Pro remains a niche product or becomes another common gadget in our homes.
