Yuzvendra Chahal Breaks IPL Record with 200 Wickets Milestone

India and Rajasthan Royals' leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal etched his name into the annals of the Indian Premier League (IPL) history on Monday by becoming the first bowler to clinch 200 wickets in the tournament. This monumental achievement came during a match against Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, where Chahal's skillful bowling led to the dismissal of Afghan batter Mohammad Nabi.

Chahal Hits 200 IPL Wickets

Chahal, aged 33, relied on his traditional leg-spin, delivering a ball that outsmarted Nabi in flight, resulting in an easy catch for Chahal himself. This wicket not only highlighted Chahal's mastery over his craft but also marked his 200th dismissal in the IPL. Since his debut in 2013, Chahal has represented three teams, including Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, showcasing consistent performance throughout.

Before reaching this milestone, Chahal surpassed Dwayne Bravo's record of 183 wickets in 161 matches, making him the leading wicket-taker in IPL history since 2023. Bravo, a player for Chennai Super Kings, now ranks second, followed by Piyush Chawla of Mumbai Indians with 181 wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar of Sunrisers Hyderabad and former Indian spinner Amit Mishra hold the fourth and fifth spots with 174 and 173 wickets respectively.

Among active players, Kolkata Knight Riders' Sunil Narine and Ravichandran Ashwin are tied with 172 wickets each. Jasprit Bumrah of Mumbai Indians and Ravindra Jadeja follow closely behind in the ninth and tenth positions with 158 and 156 wickets respectively.

Chahal's exceptional form this season has placed him among the top bowlers with the most wickets taken. His journey from his IPL debut to becoming the tournament's leading wicket-taker is a testament to his dedication and skill in cricket's shortest format.
