Yoga Institute and Sports Authority of India Unite to Elevate Athletic Performance
Moraji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) has entered into a research partnership with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to explore yoga's role in injury prevention, rehabilitation, and athletic performance enhancement. The agreement was signed by MDNIY Director Kashinath Samagandi and SAI's Bibhu Kalyan Nayak.

Research Collaboration for Athletic Improvement
The collaboration aims to combine MDNIY's yoga expertise with the National Centre for Sports Science & Research's (NCSSR) sports medicine specialisation. This partnership is expected to foster innovative training methods and improve athletic performance through holistic approaches, according to an official statement.
The MoU was formalised during the launch of a six-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) Programme for yoga therapists and instructors at MDNIY. This programme aims to enhance the skills of yoga professionals, ensuring they can effectively contribute to athlete training.
Customised Yoga Approaches
Nayak, who also serves as the director at NCSSR, emphasised the benefits of yoga for athletes. "Yoga will undoubtedly benefit our athletes. Our focus will be on developing customized approaches to identify which specific yoga asanas will be most beneficial for each athlete," he stated.
Comprehensive studies will be conducted to establish a baseline for assessing physiological, mental strength, and flexibility parameters. This will ensure a targeted and effective integration of yoga into athletic training, Nayak added.
Holistic Training Methods
The integration of yoga into everyday life remains crucial despite increased awareness in recent years, noted MDNIY Director Kashinath Samagandi. The collaboration seeks to make yoga an essential part of athletes' daily routines, enhancing their overall well-being and performance.
This partnership between MDNIY and SAI marks a significant step towards incorporating holistic methods in sports training. By leveraging the strengths of both institutions, the initiative aims to set new standards in athlete care and performance enhancement.
The agreement highlights the growing recognition of yoga's potential in sports science. It underscores the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in achieving optimal athletic outcomes.
