Wrestler Antim Panghal and Sister Face Deportation Over Accreditation Row in Paris

In a significant setback for India, Antim Panghal and her sister face deportation from Paris. The young wrestler gave her official accreditation to her younger sibling to collect personal items from the Games Village, leading to security catching her.

Antim Panghal exited the Paris Olympics after losing her initial bout in the women's 53kg category. She then went to the hotel where her designated coach Bhagat Singh and actual coach Vikas were staying. Antim asked her sister to retrieve her belongings from the Games Village.

Security Incident at Games Village

While Antim's sister managed to enter the Village, security caught her while she was leaving. She was taken to a local police station to give a statement. The 19-year-old junior world champion Antim was also summoned by the police for questioning.

Adding to the troubles, Antim's personal support staff, Vikas and Bhagat, allegedly travelled in a cab while intoxicated and refused to pay the fare. This led the driver to call the police. An Indian Olympic Association (IOA) source commented on the situation, saying, "We are fighting fire as of now."

Potential Deportation Looms

The IOA official further added, "We have a bad situation at hand, our security officer is dealing with the situation. They might be deported, let's see." This incident has caused considerable embarrassment for India on an international stage.

The unfolding events have put both Antim and her sister in a precarious position as they await further developments regarding their potential deportation from Paris.
