"I pledge to take the responsibilities that come with the role seriously. I will work towards spreading the athletes' voice and viewpoints across all key channels to ensure we can continue to focus on the sport without being distracted by external factors," she added.

About Mirabai Chanu:

Mirabai Chanu hails from Manipur. She is the second Indian weightlifter to secure an Olympic medal, clinching silver in the 49kg category at the Tokyo Games by lifting a total of 210 kg.

Despite her remarkable achievement in Tokyo and setting her sights on further glory at the Paris Olympics 2024, she unfortunately did not manage to add to her medal tally. The 31-year-old cited a struggle with weakness due to her menstrual cycle during the competition as the reason for not securing a medal this time.

The accomplished weightlifter has an impressive record, including being a two-time gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games, securing the top position both in 2018 and 2022.
