South Africa's Hunger to Win Bolsters Confidence for T20 World Cup Final

South Africa, often criticised for faltering under pressure, have shown resilience in this tournament. Captain Aiden Markram believes their recent close wins have instilled a strong belief that they can triumph from any situation. As they prepare for the T20 World Cup final against India, Markram emphasised the team's positive trajectory over the past few years.

SAs Winning Belief Before Final

India, laden with superstars, face the challenge of breaking their ICC title drought since 2013. Meanwhile, South Africa are entering uncharted territory with their first World Cup final appearance. Reflecting on past failures, Markram views the upcoming match as a fresh opportunity. "Probably I just see it as a new game of cricket, to be honest. We all know India's a great team," he said.

South Africa's Journey to the Final

Both teams remain unbeaten heading into the final, though South Africa's path has been fraught with challenges. They narrowly defeated Nepal and Bangladesh and faced a tense low-scoring match against co-hosts West Indies. These experiences have bolstered their confidence. "There have been close moments in games that would have probably affected the result and we managed to win those moments," Markram noted.

Despite being underdogs, South Africa are determined to make history. The hectic schedule has kept them focused on each game rather than the broader significance of their achievements. "You play a game, you get on a plane, you fly, you check in at a new hotel and play your next game of cricket the next day," Markram explained.

Team Mindset and Preparation

Markram stressed that regardless of Saturday's outcome, the team is progressing well. "But yeah, we'd love to get to our first final and be able to win that first final," he said. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining a positive mindset despite logistical challenges like the seven-hour delay in Trinidad due to runway issues in Barbados.

Reflecting on their semi-final victory over Afghanistan, Markram shared insights into the team's mindset. "...you say, guys, we've still got one more step to go. So, it's not driven by coach or by captain. The whole unit sort of feels that and is driven by that," he said.

India might be favourites for the title, but South Africa are not deterred. They aim to add a new chapter to their nation's cricket history without dwelling too much on past failures or future possibilities. "But it's more the opportunity that we have of being in a final that sort of excites me quite a bit," Markram stated.

The Proteas' journey has been marked by resilience and determination. Their ability to win tight matches has given them belief in their potential to succeed under pressure. As they face India in the final, they carry with them the hope of breaking new ground and achieving their first World Cup victory.

Markram concluded by expressing his team's hunger for success: "...sportsmen are highly competitive people and nobody would want to lose, and especially not lose in a final." The Proteas are ready to give their all in what promises to be an exciting showdown against India.
