In response, Sania's sister, Anam Mirza, confirmed the divorce between Sania and Shoaib in an Instagram post. She stated, "Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eyes. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now. She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead!" Anam also urged privacy and refrained from indulging in speculation during this sensitive period.

According to a Pakistani media outlet, The Pakistan Daily, none of Malik's family members attended his third wedding with Sana Javed, and Malik's sisters expressed discontent over his third marriage, particularly regarding his divorce from Sania Mirza. The report suggests that Sania decided on khula due to Malik's alleged extramarital affairs.

Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik had a traditional Hyderabadi Muslim wedding in 2010 in Hyderabad. Their family expanded with the birth of their son, Izhaan Mirza Malik, in 2018.
