In a thrilling encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured a hard-fought two-run victory over UP Warriorz in their first home match of the Women's Premier League (WPL) on Saturday, February 24.

Richa Ghosh and S Meghana's Stellar Batting Performance
RCB's batting lineup was anchored by the impressive performances of Richa Ghosh and S Meghana. Ghosh struck a remarkable 62 runs off 37 deliveries, including 12 boundaries, while Meghana contributed a solid 53 runs off 44 balls, hitting seven fours and a six. Their crucial partnership of 71 runs for the fourth wicket in just 50 balls propelled RCB to a competitive total of 157 for six on a challenging pitch.
Asha Shobhana's Game-Changing Bowling Spell
The game took a dramatic turn in RCB's favor thanks to the exceptional bowling of leg-spinner Asha Shobhana. Shobhana delivered a match-winning performance, claiming five crucial wickets for just 22 runs in her four overs. Her devastating spell in the 17th over, where she dismissed Grace Harris, Shewta Sehrawat, and Kiran Navgire in quick succession, completely shifted the momentum in RCB's favor.
UP Warriorz's Promising Start and Shobhana's Impact
UP Warriorz began their chase steadily but lost their skipper, Alyssa Healy, early in the second over to a brilliant delivery from left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux. Vrinda Dinesh and Tahlia McGrath formed a 38-run partnership for the second wicket, but their slow progress hindered UP's chase. Shobhana struck crucial blows in the ninth over, dismissing both Vrinda and McGrath, putting RCB back in control of the match.
RCB's Steady Start and Meghana's Stunning Shots
Earlier in the match, RCB batters faced a challenging start, finding themselves at a precarious 54 for three after 7.5 overs. However, Meghana and Richa Ghosh steadied the innings with a composed partnership. Meghana, who received two reprieves after being dropped on 20 and 22, capitalized on the opportunities and played some breathtaking shots. Her lofted six over extra cover off Rajeshwari Gayakwad was a highlight of her innings.
RCB's fighting spirit and the contributions of Richa Ghosh, S Meghana, and Asha Shobhana proved decisive in securing their first home win in the WPL. Despite UP Warriorz's valiant efforts, Shobhana's game-changing spell ultimately sealed the victory for RCB.
