Prohibitory Orders Enforced in Gwalior to Ensure Peace Ahead of India-Bangladesh T20 Match

Authorities in Gwalior have imposed restrictions ahead of the T20I cricket match between India and Bangladesh. The district magistrate announced prohibitory orders to prevent protests and the spread of inflammatory content, particularly on social media. These measures aim to maintain peace during the match scheduled for October 6, following a bandh call by the Hindu Mahasabha and protests from other groups.

Gwalior Enforces Prohibitory Orders for T20 Match

The Hindu Mahasabha's protest on Wednesday demanded the cancellation of the match due to alleged atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh. This unrest led to violent demonstrations and political changes in August. In response, District Magistrate Ruchika Chauhan issued orders under section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which replaced the CrPC in July, following recommendations from the Superintendent of Police.

Security Measures and Restrictions

The Superintendent of Police highlighted that various organisations were conducting processions, demonstrations, and effigy burnings to oppose the match. These activities were inciting religious sentiments and creating a communal atmosphere through objectionable content on social media. To maintain order, prohibitory orders were deemed necessary in Madhya Pradesh's district.

Under these orders, any individual disrupting the international match or inciting religious sentiments via social media will face action. The administration has banned banners, posters, cut-outs, flags, and other items with inflammatory language or messages. Demonstrations and effigy burnings at private or public places are also prohibited during this period.

Prohibited Activities and Security Deployment

The orders also restrict gatherings of five or more people and prohibit carrying firearms or weapons like swords and spears. Additionally, inflammable substances such as kerosene, petrol, and acid are banned within 200 meters of all buildings. These measures aim to ensure an incident-free event.

The India-Bangladesh match will be held at Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior, marking its first international cricket event in 14 years. To ensure security and manage traffic, approximately 1,600 policemen will be deployed for the occasion.

The prohibitory orders will remain effective until October 7 to ensure peace during this significant sporting event. The authorities are taking these steps to prevent any disruptions and maintain harmony in the region.
