Record-Breaking 12 Million Tickets Sold for Paris Olympics and Paralympics
More than 12 million tickets were sold for the Olympics and Paralympics, which Paris organisers described as an "unprecedented success" on Friday. The total of 12,132,647 tickets sold across both events represented 95% of the venues' crowd capacity, according to Tony Estanguet, head of the Paris organising committee.

"We knew how complicated it could be to organise such a big event, and we can now say that we are very happy it all went well," Estanguet said at a news conference in Saint-Denis. He noted that the Paris Games set a new benchmark for attendance and engagement.
Record-Breaking Attendance
The last evening of Paralympics athletics on September 7 saw 67,500 tickets sold at the Stade de France, marking the highest turnout for any session this summer. Estanguet highlighted this as a significant achievement for the Games.
"There was a bit of daring in challenging ourselves to do things that had never been done before," Estanguet said. He referred to the innovative opening ceremonies held outside stadiums and competitions staged near landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Palace of Versailles.
Innovative Approaches
This innovative approach captured the interest of the 2028 Los Angeles Games organisers, who observed the Paris team throughout the summer. Estanguet announced that Paris and Los Angeles organisers will have multiple meetings in the coming months to share insights between the Games.
"The main message would be to be audacious and to build on the specificities and the strength of their territory," Estanguet advised. "It's up to them to define what is the main strength of LA 28 and to really be audacious."
Future Collaborations
Paris's feel-good summer of sport will culminate on Saturday with a grand parade on the Champs Elysées featuring hundreds of French athletes. This event will celebrate the success and engagement achieved during the Games.
The successful ticket sales and high attendance rates have set a new standard for future Olympic and Paralympic events. The collaboration between Paris and Los Angeles organisers aims to build on this success by sharing innovative ideas and strategies.
The Paris Games have demonstrated how daring approaches can lead to remarkable achievements in sports event organisation. The upcoming meetings between Paris and Los Angeles organisers will likely focus on leveraging each city's unique strengths to create memorable experiences for future Games attendees.
