Neeraj Chopra Played Diamond League Final With A Broken Hand, Shares X-Ray Report On Social Media
Neeraj Chopra, the renowned javelin thrower, revealed he competed in the Diamond League Final in Brussels with a broken hand. He shared an X-ray of his palm on Twitter, stating his aim to come back stronger next season.
Chopra disclosed that he participated in the final with a fractured ring finger on his left hand. Despite this, he managed to secure second place with an 87.86m throw, just one centimetre behind Grenada's Anderson Peters. Peters' winning throw was 87.87m.

Neeraj Chopra's Injury Revelation
On social media, Neeraj posted an X-ray showing the fracture on his left hand. He expressed concern during most of his throws and seemed cautious not to push himself too hard. The Paris Olympic silver medallist explained that despite his injury, he was determined to compete in the season's last event.
"As the 2024 season ends, I look back on everything I've learned through the year-about improvement, setbacks, mentality, and more," Chopra wrote. "On Monday, I injured myself in practice and X-rays showed that I had fractured the fourth metacarpal in my left hand."
Neeraj's determination saw him through the competition at King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. His best attempt of 87.86 meters narrowly missed Peters' winning mark by just one centimetre.
Highlights from Diamond League 2024 Final
The competition began with Chopra throwing 86.82 meters on his first attempt, placing him behind Peters who hit 87.87 meters initially. Neeraj's second attempt was 83.49 meters but he bounced back with an impressive 87.86 meters on his third try.
This marks the second consecutive year Neeraj finished as runner-up in the Diamond League Final. In 2023, he lost to Jakub Vadlejch from Czech Republic with throws of 83.80 meters and 84.24 meters respectively.
"This was the last competition of the year, and I wanted to end my season on the track," Chopra added. "While I couldn't meet my own expectations, I feel this was a season in which I learned a lot."
Despite not meeting personal goals due to injury, Neeraj concluded his season positively and is determined to return fully fit for future competitions.
In 2022, Chopra had won the Diamond League title but this year's runner-up finish adds another achievement to a remarkable season where he also clinched a silver medal at the Paris Olympics.
"I am now determined to return fully fit and ready to go," Chopra stated while thanking fans for their support throughout the challenging season.
Neeraj's resilience and commitment have made him a better athlete and person as he looks forward to competing again in 2025.
