Mumbai Indians Advance to WPL Final with Strong Performances from Nat Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews
Mumbai Indians secured their second Women's Premier League final berth with a commanding 47-run victory over Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews were instrumental, each scoring 77 runs to propel Mumbai to an imposing total of 213 for four. Harmanpreet Kaur added a quick-fire 36 off 12 balls, providing the finishing touches to the innings.

Gujarat Giants struggled in their chase, collapsing to 166 all out in 19.2 overs. Their innings was marred by three run-outs, highlighting their difficulties. Matthews contributed with the ball as well, taking two wickets. This victory marked Mumbai Indians' seventh consecutive win over the Giants in WPL history.
Mumbai's Dominance Continues
Mumbai Indians, who clinched the inaugural WPL title in 2023, will face Delhi Capitals in the final on Saturday. Despite finishing last in previous seasons, reaching the knockout stage was a positive outcome for Gujarat Giants. However, their performance fell short against a dominant Mumbai side.
Debutant Danielle Gibson and Phoebe Litchfield showed promise for the Giants with scores of 34 and 31 respectively. Yet, regular wickets hindered their progress. Litchfield's switch hit off Matthews was a standout moment, but it wasn't enough to change the game's outcome.
Sciver-Brunt and Matthews Shine
Sciver-Brunt's aggressive batting dismantled both pacers and spinners, amassing ten fours and two sixes. After a slow start with only 37 runs in the powerplay, she and Matthews accelerated the scoring rate. Sciver-Brunt targeted debutant pacer Danielle Gibson, while Matthews attacked leg-spinner Priya Mishra with three consecutive boundaries.
Matthews reached her half-century with a six off Tanuja Kanwer's delivery. In the death overs, Harmanpreet Kaur unleashed a flurry of sixes, hitting four maximums as Mumbai added 73 runs in the last five overs.
Giants' Struggles Persist
Skipper Ashleigh Gardner had an uncharacteristic off day with the bat for Gujarat Giants. Indian batter Bharti Fulmali delayed defeat with a spirited 30 off 20 balls but couldn't prevent the inevitable loss. The Giants' fielding and bowling efforts were below par, contributing to their downfall.
The match highlighted Mumbai's dominance and strategic prowess, setting up an exciting final against Delhi Capitals. With key players like Sciver-Brunt and Matthews in form, Mumbai Indians are well-positioned for another title challenge.
