Young Pacer Mayank Yadav Sidelined with Stride Strain in IPL Clash
In a recent turn of events during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants' pace sensation, Mayank Yadav, encountered a side strain. This unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday when the 21-year-old bowler was seen leaving the field after delivering just one over. Despite his efforts to clock speeds in excess of 140 kmph twice during the over, Yadav had to walk off with the team's physio after conceding 13 runs.

Despite Yadav's early exit from the game, Lucknow Super Giants managed to secure a 33-run victory over Gujarat Titans. Post-match, Lucknow all-rounder Krunal Pandya shared insights on Yadav's condition, indicating a positive outlook. "I had a brief chat with Mayank and he seemed okay, which is a positive," Pandya remarked during the post-match presentation ceremony. He further praised Yadav's mental strength and expressed eagerness to witness the young pacer's career trajectory.
Yadav's injury was not a new concern for him as it marked the recurrence of an issue that had previously sidelined him during the Ranji Trophy season for Delhi. The young pacer, who has faced ankle and hamstring issues earlier in his career, made a notable entry into this IPL season. Making his debut against Punjab Kings, Yadav impressed with his ability to consistently deliver balls at speeds surpassing 150 kmph.
In his second IPL outing against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Yadav showcased his prowess by taking three wickets for just 14 runs and bowling a delivery at 156.7 kmph - the fastest in this season's IPL. This performance outdid his previous best of 155.8 kmph against Punjab Kings, bringing his wicket tally to six from just two matches.
Former West Indian fast bowler Ian Bishop emphasized the need for careful management of Yadav's burgeoning career. Highlighting the importance of nurturing young talent, Bishop suggested that both Yadav's franchise and the national cricket board should ensure he is well-protected and allowed time to strengthen physically. He drew parallels with Australia's handling of Pat Cummins during his early years following a stress injury.
The cricket community is now keenly observing how Lucknow Super Giants and the Indian cricket board will manage Mayank Yadav's situation. With such promising talent at their disposal, ensuring Yadav's long-term fitness could be crucial for both his personal career and the teams he represents.
