PM Modi and Abhinav Bindra Applaud Indian Hockey Team's Bronze in Paris

The Indian hockey team's bronze medal at the Paris Olympics brought immense joy to millions across the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and legendary shooter Abhinav Bindra led the tributes to Harmanpreet Singh's team for securing a second consecutive Olympic medal on Thursday.

Indian Hockey Wins Bronze in Paris

Prime Minister Modi praised the team's determination in achieving this historic feat. He noted, "Their success is a triumph of skill, perseverance, and team spirit. They showed immense grit and resilience. Congratulations to the players," Modi wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Historic Achievement

India ended a 41-year wait for an Olympic medal in Tokyo in 2021 with a bronze. Three years later, they repeated this success in Paris. The last time India won back-to-back Olympic medals was in 1968 and 1972, both bronze.

Abhinav Bindra, India's first individual Olympic gold medallist, called the victory peerless. "The Indian Men's Hockey Team, with courage etched in every stride, you've brought home a bronze medal that shines with the brilliance of gold," Bindra wrote on X.

Tributes from Sports Legends

Sachin Tendulkar lauded the team for their resilience after the semifinal loss. "Bouncing back like true champions!" he wrote on social media. He also praised goalkeeper Sreejesh for his dedication and commitment over the years.

Former India men's team head coach Graham Reid congratulated the team, acknowledging their hard work and sacrifices. "Congratulations team! You can be very proud of your achievements today," Reid wrote.

Recognition from Cricket Icons

Anil Kumble commended the team's comeback after trailing 1-0 in the first quarter. "Absolutely stunning play by the Indian Hockey team to fight back and get the game after trailing 1-0 in the first-quarter!" he wrote on X.

VVS Laxman termed it a great effort by the team. "Many congratulations to the Indian men's hockey team on securing a second consecutive Olympic Bronze medal," he said.

Olympic medallist wrestler Bajrang Punia highlighted the historic nature of winning two consecutive medals after a gap of more than half a century. "India has won two consecutive Olympic medals in hockey after a long gap of 52 years," Punia wrote on X.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya praised the team's exceptional performance and teamwork. "Your exceptional performance and teamwork have showcased the best of Indian sports," Mandaviya said.

Admiration from Other Sports Figures

Shooter Manu Bhaker expressed pride in India's record 13th Olympic medal in hockey. "AND THE LEGACY CONTINUES! Extremely proud to see @TheHockeyIndia win their record 13th Olympic medal," Bhaker said.

Former cricketer Ravi Shastri admired India's fitness and speed during the Olympics. "The quality of hockey displayed by India in this Olympics is something I haven't seen in the last 15-20 years," Shastri said.

Sports administrator and IOC member Nita Ambani congratulated the team for reviving Indian hockey's rich legacy at the Olympics. "Heartfelt congratulations to our men's hockey team on winning bronze at the Paris Olympics," Ambani said.
