Starting in 2002 with Mohun Bagan, Chhetri's career took him from domestic leagues to international stages, with stints in the USA and Portugal, before returning to India to play for clubs like East Bengal, Dempo, Mumbai City FC, and currently, Bengaluru FC.

With Bengaluru FC, he achieved significant success, winning titles across the I-League, ISL, and Super Cup, and leading the team to the 2016 AFC Cup final. Chhetri’s goal-scoring record is nothing short of phenomenal. With 94 goals in 150 international appearances, he ranks as the third-highest active international goal-scorer and fourth on the all-time list. Across all competitions for club and country, he has netted 252 goals in 515 appearances.
