FC Goa Strengthens Second Place in ISL with 2-0 Win Against Kerala Blasters
FC Goa secured a 2-0 victory over Kerala Blasters, solidifying their second-place position in the Indian Super League (ISL) standings. Iker Guarrotxena scored in the 46th minute, followed by Mohammed Yasir's goal in the 73rd minute. This win brought FC Goa's points tally to 42, ensuring they remain firmly in second place.

The result also delayed Mohun Bagan Super Giant's (MBSG) hopes of clinching the ISL title. A loss for FC Goa would have automatically crowned MBSG as champions. Now, MBSG, coached by Jose Molina, must win against Odisha FC on Sunday to secure the title.
FC Goa's Offensive Strategy
From the outset, FC Goa played aggressively, creating opportunities through open plays and set-pieces. In one instance, Mohammad Yasir delivered a cross from a corner to Carl McHugh in the box. McHugh managed to connect with the ball but headed it wide of the post in the 20th minute.
Guarrotxena showcased his playmaking skills with a through ball that penetrated Kerala Blasters' defence, finding Dejan Drazic in the penalty area. Drazic attempted to score but was thwarted by Kamaljit Singh's save in the bottom left corner during the 38th minute.
Second Half Breakthrough
In the second half, FC Goa intensified their efforts. They built an attack from the right flank, eventually delivering a curling pass to Drazic on the left wing. Drazic's shot seemed destined for goal, but Kamaljit Singh managed to deflect it. However, Guarrotxena capitalised on the rebound and scored in the 46th minute.
After taking the lead, FC Goa maintained control of the game with fluid attacks. In the 73rd minute, McHugh advanced through midfield and passed to Aakash Sangwan near the box. Sangwan then set up Guarrotxena inside the penalty area.
Sealing The Victory
Guarrotxena quickly passed to Yasir at close range, allowing Yasir to tap the ball into the bottom right corner and secure a two-goal lead for FC Goa. This decisive play ensured their dominance throughout the match.
With this victory, FC Goa not only strengthened their position but also kept MBSG waiting for their chance at glory. The upcoming match between MBSG and Odisha FC will be crucial for determining this season's ISL champion.
