Esteban Ocon Announces Departure from Alpine F1 Team at Season's End

Esteban Ocon, the Formula 1 driver for Alpine, has announced his departure from the team at the end of the current season. This decision comes after a challenging start to the year for both Ocon and the French-owned team. Despite being the only driver to secure a win for Alpine since its rebranding from Renault in late 2020, Ocon has faced difficulties this season, including scoring just one point and being involved in a collision with teammate Pierre Gasly during the Monaco Grand Prix.

Ocon Leaves Alpine F1

Ocon is set to receive a five-place grid penalty at the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix due to the incident in Monaco. Additionally, he has expressed his distress over abusive comments received on social media following the crash. In a statement released by the team, Ocon reflected on his time with Alpine, acknowledging both high and low moments and expressing gratitude towards the team for the memorable experiences shared.

With his contract expiring at season's end, Ocon hinted at an imminent announcement regarding his future plans but emphasized his current focus on achieving success with Alpine for the remainder of the season. Alpine has yet to reveal its driver lineup for the next year but assured that announcements will be made in due course.

Ocon's journey in Formula 1 began in 2016 with Manor, and he joined what was then known as Renault in 2020. His most notable achievement came with a victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2021, a race marked by challenging wet conditions that eliminated many competitors. However, this year has been tough for Alpine, struggling with performance issues that have left it ninth in the constructor standings, ahead of only Sauber.

The announcement of Ocon's departure follows significant changes within Alpine's design and management teams over the past year. Despite facing speculation about his future with the team after the Monaco incident and dealing with personal attacks online, Ocon confirmed his participation in the Canadian Grand Prix. He also addressed the negative online commentary, describing it as inaccurate and damaging to his reputation.

As Alpine faces a period of transition, both the team and Ocon are looking towards future opportunities to reclaim their competitive edge in Formula 1.
