Suryakumar Yadav Enjoys India Captaincy While Eyeing IPL Leadership Role

Suryakumar Yadav is relishing his role as India's T20 captain and hinted at his desire to lead an IPL team soon. Mumbai Indians may want to keep him, but it's uncertain if they will offer him the captaincy. Hardik Pandya's appointment last year after Rohit Sharma was removed didn't work out well for the team.

Suryakumar Yadav on India Captaincy and IPL

As the national team's leader, Suryakumar's reputation has grown since the last IPL season. His leadership skills are now under scrutiny as Mumbai Indians consider their options for the upcoming IPL. On the eve of the T20 series against Bangladesh, he addressed his captaincy experience and future aspirations with humour.

Leadership Ambitions in IPL

When asked about leading an IPL team, Suryakumar responded playfully, "Aapne googly daal diya aapne laughs You put me in a spot with a wrong un. Really enjoying this new role as India captain. When I was playing under Rohit bhai’s captaincy in MI, I used to give my inputs whatever I felt at that time." He added that he has learned from other captains and is eager to see what the future holds.

Mayank Yadav, a promising fast bowler, is set to debut against Bangladesh. Although Suryakumar hasn't faced him in the nets yet, he is impressed by Mayank's IPL debut performance earlier this year. "The series is a good chance for the youngsters. Mayank has that x factor and others as well," said Suryakumar.

Mayank Yadav's Potential

Regarding Mayank's potential debut, Suryakumar mentioned, "We were discussing the team just now. If you asked me 10 minutes later I would have told you whether he would play or not. But surely he has that extra pace." He emphasized managing Mayank carefully due to the busy cricket schedule and praised his fitness efforts following an injury in April.

Suryakumar confirmed that Sanju Samson will open alongside Abhishek Sharma in the series. "Sanju will open in this series," he stated. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's Towhid Hridoy anticipates a slow pitch at the new stadium, but Suryakumar believes otherwise about its condition.

Team Strategy and Pitch Conditions

"The pitch looks good. We have batting on practice wickets there will not be too much change compared to the pitch chosen for tomorrow," Suryakumar commented on the playing surface. He also supports batters bowling occasionally if needed, having done so himself against Sri Lanka.

"It can only be good if we can get couple of overs from the batters. In this squad most of them can bowl," he noted, highlighting the advantage of versatile players who can contribute with both bat and ball.
