Virat Kohli Fastest To Reach 14,000 ODI Runs As Star Batter Guides India To Victory Over Pakistan

Virat Kohli became the quickest batsman to reach 14,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs) during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Kohli reached his 51st ODI century in the match, guiding India to a six-wicket victory over their arch-rivals.

The 36-year-old batting sensation surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record (350 innings) by achieving the milestone in just 287 innings. He reached the landmark upon scoring 15 runs during India's chase against Pakistan.

Kohli is only the third batsman to achieve this feat, following Tendulkar and Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara, who reached the milestone in 378 innings in 2015.

The former India captain took just 10 innings to progress from 13,000 to 14,000 ODI runs. In September 2023, he had reached 13,000 ODI runs while playing against Pakistan in the Asia Cup in Colombo.

At that time, Kohli achieved the 13,000-run mark in just 277 innings, 44 fewer than Tendulkar, who had previously held the record by reaching the milestone in 321 innings.

Kohli then had a stellar run in the 2023 ODI World Cup, breaking Tendulkar's record for most runs in a single edition with a tally of 765. During the tournament's semi-final, he also surpassed Tendulkar's record by scoring his 50th ODI century.

With over 15,000 runs in List-A cricket, Kohli currently ranks 15th on the all-time list and third in ODIs, trailing only Tendulkar (18,426) and Sangakkara (14,234). His 54 List-A centuries are second only to Tendulkar's 60.

Kohli is now just one match away from completing 300 ODIs, and upon reaching this milestone, he will become only the seventh Indian cricketer to do so, joining Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, and Yuvraj Singh.
