Virat Kohli Addresses Social Media Speculation Over 'Mistaken' Instagram Activity

Virat Kohli has responded to recent social media rumours following an incident in which viewers detected a like from his Instagram account on a fan page for actress Avneet Kaur. The incident caused a lot of buzz, with many reactions online, including some inappropriate labelling of his wife, Anushka Sharma, in the comments and on other platforms.

In response, Kohli posted a straight comment on Instagram, clarifying the situation and urging people not to make assumptions. He said, "I'd like to explain that while deleting my feed, the algorithm appears to have wrongly registered an interaction. There was simply no intention behind it. I request that no needless assumptions are made. "Thank you for your understanding."

On May 2, keen-eyed users spotted Kohli's verified Instagram handle amid the likes on a fan page post, which instantly went viral. While some blamed it on a technical mistake or a managerial oversight, others formed unfounded assumptions about the cricketer. The like has since vanished.

The event occurred a day after Kohli posted an emotional birthday message for his wife, Anushka Sharma. The couple had been married since 2017 and had their second kid, Akaay, in February of the previous year.

Kohli's side, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), is now second on the points chart in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), having won seven of ten matches. The RCB is even on points with the Mumbai Indians but trail them in Net Run Rate. Kohli and his side will return to play on Saturday night, hosting the Chennai Super Kings in Bengaluru. CSK were eliminated from the playoff chase earlier this week.
