T20 World Cup 2024 Under Terror Threat! Cricket West Indies Receives Attack Threat

With only a month left to the commencement of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, the host West Indies Cricket Board has received a terror attack threat. According to the reports, the terror attack threat originates from Northern Pakistan.

The T20 World Cup is slated to be held from June 2 to June 29 in the USA and West Indies. A total of 55 matches would be played among 20 teams to claim the glittering trophy. However, the terror attack threat has raised concerns for the host and also for the participating teams.

"Pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources have launched campaigns inciting violence against sporting events, which included video messages from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch, ISKhorasan (IS-K) which highlighted assaults in numerous countries and urged supporters to join the battlefield in their countries," reads the security alert quoted by Cricbuzz.

Reacting to the threat, Cricket West Indies CEO Jonny Graves said that the cricket body has informed the state authorities and they working closely with the stakeholders to ensure proper security.

"We work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities, and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event," Graves said.

"We want to assure all stakeholders that the safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place," he added.

India's run in the T20 World Cup will start on June 5 with a game against Ireland. While, the much-awaited and anticipated India vs Pakistan match will be played on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
