Sunil Gavaskar Backs Vinod Kambli, His Foundation To Give Rs 30,000 Per Month For Treatment

Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has come up as an angel for another former cricketer Vinod Kambli, who is battling health issues like heart problems, brain clots, and mental health struggles. According to a report published by the Times of India, Sunil Gavaskar's The Champs Foundation will provide financial aid of Rs 30,000 per month to Vinod Kambli for the rest of his life. This amount will help Vinod Kambli bear medical expenses.

A few months ago, on Wankhede Stadium's 50th anniversary, Sunil Gavaskar met Vinod Kambli and had promised to support him. Gavaskar and other former cricketers had also requested BCCI to support former cricketers as they don't have any other source of income.

TOI's report revealed that Sunil Gavaskar also met Vinod Kambli's doctors to take account of his friend's condition and what treatment he was receiving. Sunil Gavaskar Foundation will provide the financial assistance from April 2025.

Earlier, other former cricketers like Anshuman Gaikwad, Kapil Dev, and others also took a stand for Vinod Kambli and asked the cricket governing body in India to help him.

"We are all very concerned, particularly when fortunes desert them. I don't like the word 'help'. What the 1983 team wants to do is take care of him. We want to take care of Vinod Kambli and help him get back on his feet," Gavaskar had said during an event.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah was quick to respond and had directed officials to release immediate funds for Vinod Kambli.
