Sourav Ganguly Bats For Gautam Gambhir Amid Criticism

Since India lost ODI series to Sri Lanka and test series to New Zealand, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir is facing the heat. Fans, former cricketers and critics like Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh have been blaming the coach and captain for wrong decisioins. It was India's first ever series defeat vs New Zealand at home in last 12 years.

Amid all the criticism, former India captain and batting legend Sourav Ganguly backed Gautam Gambhir. Talking to the media, Ganguly said wants Gambhir to remain true to himself. Winning and losing are part of the game, but a right approach will deliver in favour of the team.

Ganguly Bats For Gambhir

"All I will say is let him be," Ganguly stated. "I saw some criticism of what he said in the press conference. It is the way he is. Let him be," he added.

Former captain added that blaming one is not right for recent losses. He noted that when Gambhir won the IPL, his directness was praised. "Just because he has lost three Test matches and a one-day series against Sri Lanka, the straight talk has not been looked at nicely," Ganguly remarked.

He further explained that Australians have always played tough cricket and there's nothing wrong with Gambhir's words. "That is the way he is, and he fights," Ganguly added. "He competes, so let us give him a chance." He urged people not to judge Gambhir too quickly.

Gambhir's Approach

Gambhir's comments about Ricky Ponting during a press conference also drew attention. Yet, Ganguly believes it's important for Gambhir to express himself freely. "No problem whatsoever," Ganguly said about Gambhir's remarks.

"Let him say whatever he likes, for that will help him," Ganguly continued. He stressed that playing hard on the field is what truly matters and has been part of cricket for ages, especially against Australian teams.
