Smriti Mandhana Puts Wedding On Hold As Father Suffers Sudden Health Emergency

Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana has deleted all wedding-related posts from her social media after her planned ceremony with music composer Palash Muchhal was put on hold due to a sudden health scare involving her father.

Mandhana's father was rushed to a hospital in Sangli after showing symptoms linked to a possible heart issue. With the family now fully focused on his treatment and recovery, the wedding, which was scheduled to take place in her hometown, has been postponed indefinitely. A day later, Palash Muchhal was also admitted to a hospital in Sangli. His mother, Amita Muchhal, later confirmed that he has returned to Mumbai and is resting while recovering. Consecutive health issues in both families led to the decision to pause all celebrations.

Mandhana, known for guarding her private life, had earlier shared glimpses of her pre-wedding functions on Instagram, including her engagement moments, intimate celebrations with teammates, and traditional ceremonies. All those posts have now been removed as the family's attention has shifted from festivities to health.

The move quickly drew attention from fans who had been following the wedding updates, but social media reactions have been overwhelmingly supportive, with many wishing strength and good health to both families.

The couple had planned to marry in a private ceremony on Sunday, with only close relatives and friends in attendance. Pre-wedding functions such as the Mehendi, Haldi and Sangeet had already begun, and a fun Bride Team vs Groom Team cricket match was also organised, inspired by Mandhana's cricketing journey.

Several members of the Indian women's cricket team - Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, Shafali Verma, Arundhati Reddy, Shivali Shinde and Richa Ghosh - attended the pre-wedding celebrations. A short clip of Mandhana dancing with her teammates during the Haldi ceremony had also gone viral.

Mandhana and Muchhal had announced their engagement earlier on social media. Mandhana shared a playful video with her teammates, while Muchhal posted a proposal video filmed at Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium, where India lifted the Women's World Cup. Their wedding was planned soon after Mandhana's standout World Cup performance, where she played a crucial role in India's title-winning run.

For now, all celebrations remain on hold as both families prioritise recovery and well-being.
