Shubman Gill Says More Competition For Opener's Position Is Good For Team
Opener Shubman Gill, who played several match-winning knocks for India, is now all set to make a comeback in the core team after his impressive performance against Zimbabwe. Gill, who led Men in Blue in place of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, will now see tough competition from his own teammates namely Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma, and Ruturaj Gaikwad for the second opener's position in Team India.
Though the way for India's T20 opening position has become easy since Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the shortest international format, the race for opening position in the ODI is still tough and on.

Addressing the media, Shubman Gill recently shared his thoughts on the intense competition for the second opener's position. He said, "It's a good thing that everyone's performing, It shows their hungry for runs and nobody is ready to take it easy. For any country or board, intense competition has always been a good thing."
"Anyone who got the opportunity grabbed it with both hands. The openers to bowlers to allrounders to spinners, everyone made a mark and I think the selectors have now seen everything and it's up to them to name the squad for the next series (3T20Is, 3 ODIs in Sri Lanka)," he added.
Thumping back of his teammates after India crushed Zimbabwe 4-1, Shubman Gill added that Team India maintained standards of play and now hoping to continue the flow even against Sri Lanka and England in the upcoming series.
