Shane Watson Likely To Be New Head Coach Of Pakistan Cricket Team
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to appoint former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson as the new head coach of Pakistan's cricket team. The top position in the coaching staff for the men's cricket team has been vacant since the 2023 ODI World Cup. And now, the cricket governing body has now decided to fill the position.
According to the reports, the PCB has agreed to pay $ 2 million annually to Watson, the amount he had demanded which is also the record pay to coach in Pakistan's cricket history.

However, the ball is still in Watson's court as he hasn't made the final call to accept the head coach's post yet. Watson, who was famous for his hard-hitting and slowing swinging deliveries, had played multiple roles like commentator and coach for franchise teams including Quetta Gladiators, which qualified first time in the playoffs in the last five editions of Pakistan Super League (PSL).
"He has a young family in Australia and also has commitments in the USA Major League. So, he is weighing his options as the board wants him to spend maximum time in Pakistan helping them also discover and groom talent at the domestic level," a source with the PCB said on the condition of anonymity.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Watson was associated with Chennai Super Kings and helped the team to emerge victorious on many occasions.
Notably, Mohammad Hafeez played the head coach's role for Pakistan in the series against Australia and New Zealand, but now he is not a part of backend management ever since Mohsin Naqvi took charge as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Shane Watson International Career Stats:
Australia's star all-rounder played 59 tests and 190 ODI matches to notch 3731 and 5757 runs in both formats. He has also played 58 T20 games and scored 6294 runs.
