N Srinivasan Named Chairman of Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd at 80

Former BCCI and ICC chief N Srinivasan has been appointed Chairman of Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd (CSKCL) at the age of 80. Known for his strong influence in cricket administration, Srinivasan joined the CSKCL board as a director in February 2025 and was elevated to the top post on May 10.

Leadership and Family Involvement

Srinivasan's family remains central to CSKCL's leadership. His daughter Rupa Gurunath was appointed Whole-time Director on August 24, 2025. She has prior experience in cricket administration and currently holds 36,440 shares, while Srinivasan himself owns 4,27,400 shares.

The franchise will host its 11th Annual General Meeting on September 27 at 11 AM IST, virtually, with key agenda items including the reappointment of both Srinivasan and Rupa as directors.

Strategic Focus and Expansion

Despite maintaining a low public profile, Srinivasan continues to be actively engaged in CSK's internal strategy. He is pushing for overseas expansion, with CSK teams already set up in South Africa and the United States, and is advocating for high-performance centres and academies to build long-term infrastructure.

A senior CSK official confirmed that Srinivasan plays a pivotal role in decision-making and remains in close touch with MS Dhoni, whose leadership still carries weight within the franchise.

Board and Future Outlook

The current CSKCL board includes R Srinivasan, Rakesh Singh, PL Subramanian, Sanjay Patel, V Manickam, and Rupa Gurunath. E Jayashree stepped down as director on May 10. Day-to-day operations are overseen by Kasi Viswanathan, Managing Director and CEO.

With CSK now fully separated from India Cements, control rests firmly with the Srinivasan family. Srinivasan's hands-on involvement has also fueled speculation that Dhoni, now 44, could extend his playing career with CSK for a few more seasons.
