MS Dhoni Retirement: Chennai Super Kings Star Should've Retired From IPL In 2023, Says Manoj Tiwary

Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary, in an interview with Cricbuzz, came out heavily on MS Dhoni and CSK bosses for continuously breaking hearts of Chennai team fans. Manoj Tiwari asked why MS Dhoni is not retiring from IPL when he can not bat for 8 to 10 overs. However, he also highlighted that MS is doing great with gloves behind the stumps, where fitness matters the most. Quoting coach Stephen Fleming that MSD has knee pain issue, Manoj Tiwari said when Indian legend is perfectly taking catches, doing up and down on almost every ball, then why can't he bat up the order?

Manoj Tiwary, who represented India in 12 ODIs, 3 T20s and played over 98 IPL matches, called it confusing and heartbreaking for fans who specially come to stadium to see MS Dhoni bat and CSK win. Putting a big question mark on MS Dhoni's batting order, Manoj Tiwary said that it is time for captain Ruturaj Gaikwad to take some strict calls.

MS Dhoni

He also suggested that, ideally, MS Dhoni should have bid adieu to franchise cricket when he was in his prime in 2023.

"Forgive me if I'm being a little strict here. He should have retired after the 2023 IPL; it was his best time. With all the respect he has earned over the years, fans have not been able to see him in the last two years, and he is getting lost. Look at how the Chennai fans are reacting, coming out on the roads and giving those interviews," he said.

Tiwary said CSK makes all decisions around one man, but nothing is working for the team. The team should make him understand that it is time to leave now.
