Mohammed Shami quashes Test Retirement Speculations, confirms commitment for India

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has categorically denied Test retirement claims, asserting his commitment to the sport and continuation of his journey for India in international cricket.

The Indian Test team has taken a huge blow with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retirements. The two stalwarts of Indian cricket have called it quits on the longest format of the game, ending their respective illustrious careers.

Ahead of the India and England Test series, media reports suggested that Shami's future in Test cricket also in doubt, but the Indian pacer rejected all those rumours on social media. On Tuesday, Shami squashed all rumours of him becoming the next in line for retirement, with a firm notion that the pacer is fully focused on the upcoming assignments for the Indian team in Whites and limited overs format as well.

Mohammed Shami set for India Return

Despite his absence from Test cricket due to injury issues, Shami returned to the India setup in the Champions Trophy. The India pacer has been excellent across formats and has now cleared about his continuous approach to represent India in the future as well.

Shami's firm denial of retirement rumours underscores his determination to continue contributing to Indian cricket. As he focuses on retaining peak fitness, his return to the national team in Test format remains a matter of the selection committee's decisions.

Shami is currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025 and has so far picked up 6 wickets in nine matches for the Orange Army. In Tests, the 34-year-old has picked up 229 wickets in 64 matches.
