Mohammed Shami Is Totally Fit, Still Not Picked For India Vs Australia Test Series; BCCI Explains
Mohammed Shami will not be part of India's cricket team for the last two Tests in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed this on Monday. Although Shami has fully recovered from his heel injury, his left knee is swollen after playing in recent domestic matches. Thus, he needs more time before returning to full bowling loads.
The BCCI's medical team has been closely monitoring Shami's recovery and rehabilitation following surgery on his right heel. "Shami has completely recovered from this heel problem," stated the BCCI. However, after bowling 43 overs in a Ranji Trophy match and participating in all nine games of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, his left knee showed minor swelling.

Medical Assessment and Future Plans
The BCCI explained that the swelling is due to increased joint loading from his recent bowling activities. "The swelling is on the expected lines, owing to the increased bowling after a prolonged period," they noted. Based on current assessments, Shami's knee requires more time for controlled exposure to bowling loads.
Consequently, Shami will not be considered fit for the remaining Tests against Australia. He will continue targeted strength and conditioning work under medical supervision at BCCI's Centre of Excellence. His participation in future tournaments like the Vijay Hazare Trophy depends on his knee's progress.
Impact on Border Gavaskar Trophy
The Border Gavaskar Trophy is currently tied at 1-1 after three Tests. Shami's absence could impact India's strategy as they aim to clinch victory in this prestigious series against Australia. The team will need to rely on other bowlers to fill the gap left by Shami.
