KL Rahul Shares Dressing Room Insights, Says Akash-Bumrah Rescued Team In Gabba Test

KL Rahul shared insights into the Indian team's emotions after Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah's crucial last-wicket stand in Brisbane. Their partnership helped India avoid a follow-on against Australia in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The dressing room was filled with joy, led by coach Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli, as avoiding the follow-on boosted team morale for the remaining Tests.

India found themselves struggling at 213 for 9, needing 33 more runs to avoid a follow-on when Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed for 77 by Pat Cummins. With hopes dwindling, Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah formed a resilient partnership, adding 39 runs and facing nine overs of Australian bowling. This effort ensured India ended the fourth day on 252 for 9, securing their position in the Test.

Lower-Order Contributions Boost Confidence

KL Rahul expressed delight at seeing lower-order batsmen contribute significantly. He noted that bowlers working hard on their batting paid off in this critical situation. "Yes, it's very good to see when the lower-order chips in and scores runs," Rahul said. "Avoiding the follow-on makes a huge difference." He highlighted how Akash and Bumrah's efforts were crucial given the weather conditions.

The contrasting emotions between both teams were evident after Bumrah and Akash's partnership. While Indian players celebrated their achievement, Australia's spirits dropped, knowing they missed an opportunity to dominate despite their strong first innings score of 445.

Guidance from Team Management

Rahul also revealed that team management sent a message to calm Akash Deep and Bumrah during their innings. The captain and coach advised them to focus on singles rather than boundaries as they neared the follow-on mark. "It's very simple," Rahul explained, "Try and get those runs and don't have to try and do it with a boundary."

Akash eventually hit a boundary to surpass the follow-on mark and followed it with a six off Pat Cummins before bad light halted play. Earlier in the day, KL Rahul played a pivotal role by scoring 84 runs after being dropped early by Steve Smith. His partnership with Ravindra Jadeja added stability to India's innings.

Rahul's Resilience Shines Through

Despite frequent rain interruptions, Rahul managed to fend off Australia's bowling attack effectively. His ability to maintain focus stood out as he partnered with Jadeja for a crucial sixth-wicket stand of 67 runs. Although he missed out on a century due to Smith's stunning catch later, his performance was commendable.

The Indian team's determination was evident throughout this Test match. Their ability to avoid following on has not only lifted their spirits but also set them up positively for upcoming challenges in the series against Australia.
