KL Rahul Completes 1000 Test Runs in England, Joins Virat Kohli, Sachin, Dravid And Gavaskar In Elite List

KL Rahul has etched his name in the annals of cricket history. On July 23, during the first day of the fourth Test between India and England in Manchester, he became only the second Indian opener to score 1000 Test runs in England. This achievement places him alongside Sunil Gavaskar, who was the first to reach this milestone.

Rahul needed just 28 runs to reach this landmark and accomplished it by taking a single off Chris Woakes' delivery in the 15th over of India's innings. His journey as an opener in England began after his debut Test at Edgbaston in August 2018, where he batted at No. 3 but managed only 4 and 13 runs.

KL Rahul's Consistent Performance

Since then, Rahul has consistently opened for India in England, playing a total of 12 matches before this ongoing Test. In these matches, he has amassed exactly 1000 runs. This ongoing match marks his 13th Test appearance in England.

Among Indian openers, Sunil Gavaskar leads with 1152 runs from 16 matches. Rahul's achievement is significant as he joins an elite group of Indian batsmen who have scored over 1000 Test runs in England, including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Virat Kohli.

Indian Batsmen's Achievements

The list of Indian batsmen with the most Test runs in England is led by Sachin Tendulkar with 1575 runs from 17 matches. He is followed by Rahul Dravid with 1376 runs from 13 matches. Sunil Gavaskar stands third on this list with his impressive tally.

Virat Kohli has also been prolific but hasn't reached the same milestone against England in their home conditions. He has accumulated a total of 976 runs from his appearances against them there.

KL Rahul 's Recent Form

This series has seen Rahul deliver some remarkable performances. At Headingley, he scored a commendable 42 runs followed by a stellar knock of 137 in the second innings. Despite his efforts, India faced a narrow defeat by five wickets.

In the second Test at Edgbaston, Rahul had a modest outing with scores of two and fifty-five across both innings. However, it was during the third Test at Lord's that he truly shone by scoring a century (100) and adding another solid performance with thirty-nine runs.

Rahul's ability to perform under pressure makes him only the second Indian after Dilip Vengsarkar to score multiple centuries at Lord's.

Kohli's overall record includes playing one Test each against New Zealand and Australia on English soil where he registered scores like forty-four and thirteen respectively.
