IPL 2025: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Adds Blessing Muzarabani As Lungi Ngidi's Replacement
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is set to face a significant change in their lineup for the crucial final stages of the ongoing IPL season. With Lungi Ngidi, the South African seamer, leaving the squad by May 26 to join his national team for the World Test Championship (WTC) final preparations, RCB has swiftly found a replacement. They have roped in Zimbabwe's towering pacer, Blessing Muzarabani, who stands at 6'8". This move comes as RCB aims to bolster their bowling attack for the final league game and the subsequent playoffs.
Muzarabani, who will be making his IPL debut, has been acquired for the price of INR 75 Lakh, according to an IPL statement. The 28-year-old Zimbabwean has shown impressive form in red-ball cricket recently, capturing 10 wickets in two Tests against Bangladesh, including a standout six-wicket haul in Sylhet. His performance in T20 cricket is also noteworthy, with 127 wickets in 118 matches at an economical rate of 7.24. Muzarabani's inclusion is expected to strengthen RCB's pace attack, complementing the efforts of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yash Dayal.

A Shuffling of Players for RCB
The departure of Ngidi, who played a single game for RCB in IPL 2025 where he claimed three wickets against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), is part of a broader exodus of South African players from the IPL. Alongside Ngidi, other Proteas players like Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Ryan Rickelton, Corbin Bosch, and Tristan Stubbs, who were potential picks for the playoffs, will also be leaving to prepare for the WTC final. This mass departure necessitated RCB to look for a capable replacement swiftly.
Muzarabani, who is currently engaged in a historic Test match against England that concludes on May 25, is keen to join RCB for their May 27 game against the Lucknow Super Giants. However, his availability for that match remains contingent on his commitments to the Zimbabwe national team. Meanwhile, RCB's concerns extend beyond Ngidi's absence. There is uncertainty regarding Josh Hazlewood's participation, with the Australian seamer expected to join the team by the end of this week, right before the playoffs commence.
RCB's Aspirations and Standings
Currently, RCB holds the second position on the IPL points table, a spot they're eager to maintain or improve upon as they head into the playoffs. Despite a washout against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), RCB shares 17 points with Punjab Kings, making the race for the top two spots intensely competitive. The Gujarat Titans currently lead the table following a victory in Delhi, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the league phase.
With the playoffs fast approaching, RCB's strategic inclusion of Muzarabani could be a game-changer. His potential to make a significant impact in the T20 format, backed by an impressive track record in international cricket, offers RCB a fresh bowling option. As the team prepares for the final push towards clinching the coveted IPL title, the new addition to their pace battery could indeed be the blessing they need in their quest for glory.
