IPL 2025: KL Rahul Meets LSG Boss Sanjiv Goenka, Likely To Be Retained
KL Rahul, captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), visited the franchise's Kolkata office on Monday for a meeting with owner Sanjiv Goenka. The meeting, held at Goenka's office on Judges Court Road, Alipore, lasted about an hour.
This was the first formal interaction between Rahul and Goenka since their animated conversation following LSG's loss to SunRisers Hyderabad on May 8. Although the specifics of their discussion remain undisclosed, it is understood that the meeting focused on team composition and Rahul's potential retention.

Team Composition and Retention
Whether LSG will retain Rahul remains uncertain, but his visit to the owner could be a significant indicator. Neither side has commented on the matter yet. Speculation about Rahul's possible return to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) also remains unconfirmed.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet announced the official retention policy. It is still unclear how many players each team can retain. Additionally, the Right to Match (RTM) option could influence franchise decisions regarding top retentions.
Mentorship Changes
Rahul's visit coincides with news of LSG's plans to appoint Zaheer Khan as a mentor. This development was first reported by Cricbuzz on August 19. The former India pacer's appointment is expected to be confirmed soon, and he will likely work alongside Justin Langer, who will continue as head coach.
Rahul has been with LSG for three seasons, all as captain. He recently played in India's ODI squad that toured Sri Lanka and will soon compete in the Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru, representing Team A under Shubman Gill's captaincy.
The dynamics of the auction mean there is no guarantee a franchise can secure a player it pursues with certainty. This adds another layer of complexity to retention decisions.
The outcome of these discussions and decisions will become clearer once BCCI announces its retention policy. Until then, fans and analysts can only speculate on what lies ahead for KL Rahul and LSG.
