IPL 2025: KKR's Sunil Narine's "Illegal Bat" Caught In Bat Size Check | Watch Video

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday faced a humiliating defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS) as they failed to chase a small total of 112 runs. KKR's batting unit, which is said to be one of the strongest amoung all in IPL 2025, fell like a house of cards. This was KKR's worst ever defeat in IPL history.

Not just the defeat, KKR also had to face humiliation after their star batter and opener Sunil Narine failed in bat size check, done by on-field umpires. Sunil Narine's bat's width was more than the standard size allowed in international cricket. Hence, the West Indian all-rounder had change his bat before start the run chase for KKR at Mullanpur stadium in match number 31.

Sunil Narine fails bat size check

A video from KKR vs PBKS match is going viral on the internet, showing Narine's failed bat check, which sparked a debate over whether he was batting with an 'illegal size bat' in previous seasons.

This bat size checking rule has been implemented from this season only.

KKR young gun Angkrish Raghuvanshi was also standing next to umpire and Narine when the bat check was done, shows viral video. Umpires also checked Raghuvanshi's bat, which he passed.

Narine was not alone who failed the bat size check, speedster Anrich Nortje, who came to bat down the order, also flunk the bat check test in same game. Both stars were informed about the size limit by umpires and were forced to use another bat.

What Are The Bat Size Rules?

As per the norms set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), a bat's width should not exceed 10.79cm, while thickness of the blade shouldn't be more than 6.7cm. The length of the cricket bat must be below 96.4cm.
