IPL 2024 KKR vs PBKS: Unhappy Gautam Gambhir Argues With Fourth Umpire, Know The Controversy

The Indian Premier League aka IPL 2024 matches are like a roller coaster of emotions for fans as most of the matches are laced with interesting turns and twists. In match number 42, the high-flying Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced a defeat despite scoring 260 runs against the Punjab Kings (PBKS). All credited to Johnny Bairstow's blitzkrieg ton, PBKS registered an 8-wicket victory with 8 balls to spare.

However, more than Punjab's victory, social media users showed more interest in Gautam Gambhir's spat with the fourth umpire. In the 14th over of the first inning, KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir lost his cool when the on-field umpire canceled a single taken by Andre Russell on an overthrow.

The video of the incident is doing round the internet, which shows, that Ashutosh Sharma made an outstanding stop to Russel's cut on Rahul Chahar's ball. He then threw the ball to wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma, which slipped from his gloves and Russel quickly stole a run. However, umpire Anil Sharma canceled the extra run earned as he had called it Over when Ashutosh stopped the ball.

This was not liked by Gautam Gambhir and he was seen discussing the case with the fourth umpire.

A few days ago, Gambhir got engaged in a war of words when the on-field umpire did not allow the 12th man to take the field in place of Suneil Narayan, who had hurt his foot in the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

During the post-match conference, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer had said, "It takes a lot off your body and drains you out completely because you go through so many emotions. It's tough to stay calm but I'm elated. We got two points on the board and that's all that matters. It's extremely tough when the pressure is on, I feel that every individual should put their hands up and take the responsibility."
