IPL 2024: Karnataka State Cricket Association Ensure Smooth Conduct Of Matches Amid Bengaluru Water Crisis

Bengaluru, the host city for the first leg of the WPL 2024, is currently facing a severe water crisis, considered to be the worst in the last 40 years. This situation has led to suggestions from various groups to move the upcoming IPL games, set to start on March 25, to a different location.

Despite the critical water shortage, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) assures that the three IPL matches scheduled in the city will proceed without issues. The confidence stems from the association's ability to fulfill water needs through an in-house sewage treatment plant.

Shubendu Ghosh, CEO of KSCA, addressed the concerns by stating, "We are facing no crisis at the moment. We are in constant meetings about following the state government's guidelines on water usage." The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has prohibited the use of drinking water for non-essential purposes like gardening or vehicle washing.

Ghosh further elaborated on the water management strategies, explaining, "We are already using water from the STP plant for watering outfield and pitch and other in-stadium purposes. We may require 10,000-15,000 litres of water for match purposes, and we are certain that it can be generated from the STP plant."

The IPL 2024's first match in Bengaluru will see the local team, Royal Challengers Bangalore, facing off against Punjab Kings on March 25. Subsequent games include a match against Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants on March 29 and April 2, respectively.

Officials from Royal Challengers Bangalore, known for their environmental initiatives, also expressed confidence in managing the matches amidst the water crisis. They emphasized their ongoing coordination with KSCA office-bearers and adherence to National Green Tribunal norms, ensuring preparedness for such scenarios.

This coverage highlights the efforts and plans in place by the KSCA and Royal Challengers Bangalore to address the severe water shortage in Bengaluru while ensuring the smooth conduct of the IPL 2024 matches.
