IPL 2024: Gautam Gambhir Praises KKR's Ryan Ten Doeschate, Calls Him 'Greatest Team Man" Ever

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, also the most successful captain for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), named Ryan Ten Doeschate as the 'greatest team man'. Speaking at an event in Kolkata by KKR ahead of the much-awaited IPL 2024 edition, Gautam Gambhir said in his 42-year career, he had never spoken about selflessness until now. He expressed admiration for the most selfless individual he had ever played with, someone he considered worthy of taking a bullet for and entrusting with his life.

Praising Ryan Ten Doeschate, Gambhir added he taught him the essence of selflessness during his first game as KKR captain in 2011. Despite having only three overseas players available due to circumstances, this individual, who had performed exceptionally well in the 50-over World Cup, willingly accepted the role of carrying drinks during the match, displaying no signs of disappointment.

Gambhir credited Ryan ten Doeschate for instilling in him the value of selflessness, emphasizing that such individuals were instrumental in shaping him as a leader.

Gambhir also extended credit for both the title wins to players saying: "I did not make KKR successful. It was KKR that made me a successful leader. KKR for me was never about purple and gold and those two stars that you see on the jersey. It was far more beyond that. First, KKR meant passion, KKR meant honesty, it meant sacrifice and selflessness."

Gambhir also lauded Carrebian cricketer Sunil Narain, calling him one of the best bowlers he has ever seen.
