Former cricketer Dinesh Karthik shared his views on Travis Head stating that rather than the Australian team as a whole, Travis Head has been the main reason for India's struggles in knockout matches against Australia.

Travis Head's Impact on India

In recent encounters, Head has consistently troubled India by delivering match-winning performances. He scored remarkable centuries in both the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup 2023 finals. Additionally, he maintained his form during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year. Karthik highlighted that dismissing Head early would be crucial for India to ease their pressure throughout the game.

Karthik shared his insights on Sky Sports podcast with Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain. He mentioned that Australia is currently India's toughest opponent in ICC tournaments. "It used to be New Zealand for a wee bit," Karthik said. "In these knockout games, they always had the better of India, but you have to say it's Australia at this point in time."

Australia: India's Toughest Opponent

Karthik emphasised that Australia's challenge is more about one player than the entire team. "If at all, there is a team that they would think that on most days they'll challenge India has to be Australia," he noted. Referring to Ravi Shastri's words, Karthik added, "The mental block is more one player than Australia itself, Travis Headache."

Head's wicket will be pivotal for India as it could determine the outcome of the match. Karthik stated, "He has actually, in any format...that wicket early will actually make them breathe a lot easier for the rest of the game." He pointed out that Head has been decisive in big games like the World Test Championship Final and World Cup Final.

Strategic Approach Against Travis Head

While dismissing Head won't guarantee victory for India, it will provide some relief. "Definitely, it's not the end of the game," Karthik remarked. "But I think they'll breathe a lot easier because till the time he's around...he just finds a way to get that boundary." This highlights how crucial it is for India to strategise effectively against him.

Karthik also speculated about India's bowling strategy for the match. He suggested that India might opt for four spinners given Varun's recent performance and pitch conditions. "I have a feeling they will end up playing four spinners," he said. "Especially with the way Varun bowled and this pitch...it makes sense to play Varun."
