ICC T20 World Cup 2026: Scotland Confirm Squad, Blend Youth and Experience

Scotland has confirmed a 15-member T20 World Cup 2026 squad after being drafted in as Bangladesh's replacement. Richie Berrington will captain the side at the tournament co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The announcement comes under tight timelines, with final selection still subject to visa clearance.

The group was chosen by head coach Owen Dawkins, who moved into the role last month. Dawkins and support staff had to act quickly once Scotland were officially named as Bangladesh's last-minute replacement, with planning and logistics compressed into a hectic few days.

Selectors have leaned on continuity, keeping 11 players from the 2024 T20 World Cup held in the West Indies and the USA. That core provides stability, while Scotland also confirmed that Tom Bruce, Finlay MacCreath and Oliver Davidson will appear at a T20 World Cup for the first time.

Afghanistan-born pacer Zainullah Ehsan is the only fresh name in the main Scotland T20 World Cup 2026 squad beyond that group. Ehsan recently completed the qualification process to play for Scotland and has now earned a first World Cup call-up, adding another pace option.

Dawkins explained that the last 48 hours have been especially demanding for Cricket Scotland staff. The organisation has rushed to secure travel, accommodation and support arrangements for players and coaches, after confirmation that the T20 World Cup 2026 will start on February 7.

According to Cricket Scotland, players have already begun fitness work for the event. The squad was shifting into individual skill-based sessions and fielding drills last week, but that programme has now been sped up following the news received on Saturday. Warm-up fixtures and travel details will be released shortly.

Given the late notice around Scotland's involvement, selectors have also named additional options around the Scotland T20 World Cup 2026 squad. Two travelling reserves and three non-travelling reserves will provide backup if required, helping manage risk around injuries, form or any visa-related issues for the main group.
