ICC Rankings: English Batter Harry Brook Reclaims No.1 Test Batter Position, Surpasses Joe Root

Harry Brook has reclaimed the title of the No.1 Test batter in the world, overtaking his England teammate Joe Root. This change follows Brook's impressive 158-run innings during the first innings of the second Test against India in Birmingham. Root now sits in second place, trailing Brook by 18 rating points.

India's captain, Shubman Gill, has also made significant strides in the rankings. After leading his team to victory over England at Edgbaston with scores of 269 and 161, Gill has climbed 15 places to reach a career-best sixth position. He is now just 79 points behind Brook, with only Root, Kane Williamson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Steve Smith ahead of him.

ICC Test Rankings Shake-Up

England's wicketkeeper Jamie Smith has achieved a new career-high ranking. His performances of 184 not out and 88 in the second Test against India have propelled him up 16 places to secure the 10th spot among Test batters. Meanwhile, South Africa's Wiaan Mulder made a significant leap of 34 spots to reach 22nd after scoring an unbeaten 367 against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.

Mulder declared South Africa's innings at 626/5, foregoing an opportunity to surpass Brian Lara's record for the highest Test score. This decision rewarded him with a jump of 12 spots to third on the list for Test all-rounders. Ravindra Jadeja from India continues to lead this list comfortably.

ICC Rankings: Bowling Update

Jasprit Bumrah remains the top-ranked Test bowler despite missing India's victory over England due to workload management. His teammate Mohammed Siraj has moved up six places to rank 22nd after a strong performance against England. West Indies bowlers Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph have also improved their standings, each climbing six spots to rank 29th and 31st respectively.

The ODI rankings have seen changes too following Sri Lanka's series win over Bangladesh. Charith Asalanka gained two positions to secure sixth place behind top-ranked Gill among ODI batters. Kusal Mendis rose ten places to enter the top ten after being named Player of the Series against Bangladesh.

Sri Lankan Bowlers Shine In ICC Rankings

Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga has improved significantly in the ODI bowling rankings, moving up eleven places to eighth after taking nine wickets across three matches against Bangladesh.
